November 23, 2010 12:00:00 AM PST
Actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi said in court Tuesday that if it weren't for Canada's refugee system they would be dead.Quaid made the comment at his Canadian immigration hearing in Vancouver. He and his wife were picked up there last month on an outstanding warrant from Southern California for allegedly vandalizing their former California residence.

The pair asked for refugee status in Canada, claiming they were being hunted by a group trying to hurt celebrities they called the "Hollywood Star Whackers." They claim the group was behind the deaths of actors David Carradine and Heath Ledger, though they have presented no evidence supporting their claim.
