Cold front brings snow, rain, wind to SoCal

GORMAN, Calif. A cold front began dumping fresh powder on the Grapevine, which could tie up traffic even more on one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

The California Highway Patrol kept a close eye on the 5 freeway's Grapevine area. Officials said they'll close down the freeway if conditions get bad.

"Watch for ice, make sure your tires are inflated properly, your windshield wipers work and your cell phone (battery) is fully charged," said CHP Sgt. Rick Miller.

While drivers heading north are prepared for icy roads and low visibility Saturday afternoons, drivers heading south say already had to deal with rainy weather.

San Diego resident Robert Monroe travelled along the wet roads from Roseville, Calif., north of Sacramento.

"It rained pretty steadily to about Fresno or so and then the southern end of the system ended in about Bakersfield," he said.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory through 10 a.m. Sunday for the Coachella Valley and San Diego County deserts.
