It briefly threatened a Home Gardens neighborhood near Indiana Ave. and Lakepointe Dr.
The fire broke out shortly before noon and firefighters were quick to respond.
More than 140 of them fought the flames with help from a water-dropping helicopter.
The fire burned about 50 acres of brush.
There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
