December 3, 2010 12:00:00 AM PST
A registered sex offender was accused of sexually assaulting a 2-year old at a store and was captured thanks to the quick actions of several good samaritans. At a dollar store in Union City in the Bay Area, police say the toddler had wandered from her grandmother for less than a minute when the suspect, Eugene Melendres Ramos, raped the child.

The grandmother screamed and when the suspect ran off, another woman tried to grab him. The suspect escaped her grip and ran outside but was tackled by two men.

"I just looked at the baby and the lady standing there asking me to help and I just tackled the guy and sat on him," said Sammy Johnson.

The 36-year-old suspect, previously convicted in the 2003 rape of a 7-year-old girl, is now behind bars and faces charges of rape, kidnapping and lewd acts with a child.
