A man accused of making bombs in his Escondido home has been indicted on federal charges, which preempt local charges against the 54-year-old George Jakubec.Jakubec was arrested last month after a gardener was injured when he stepped on a mine-like device in Jakubec's backyard.

Police say a search of the home turned up nine pounds of explosives materials and large amounts of bomb-making chemicals.

According to a search warrant, items seized from the house included sulfuric acid, nitric acid and hydrochloric acid.

Authorities also confiscated a grenade mold, a bag with pieces of metal, a jar with ball bearings and three wireless doorbells with remotes. Two handguns, a .22-caliber Ruger and a Glock 19 also were taken, along with a blue Escondido police shirt.

Jakubec is also charged with three San Diego County bank robberies.

Jakubec remained jailed on $5.1 million bail.
