Tippi Hedren honored for animal preserve

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS, Calif. Hedren, best known for her role in Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds," has operated the Shambala Preserve since 1972. It provides homes for dozens of animals, including lions, leopards, tigers and bobcats.

Hedren's honor coincides with Universal Studios' annual Grinchmas event.

"I have received a number of awards but this one is very, very special just because it's just for the animals and the work that I've done with them," said Hedren.

The event featured a shelter dog, the adopted pet of the Grinch. This weekend there will be a pet adoption fair near the park's main entrance.
