Man found dead in OC home shared w/ fiancée

TUSTIN, Calif. Police were called to the home on the 1400 block of Valencia Avenue in Tustin shortly before 8 a.m. The woman told police she woke up and found him lying on the bathroom floor, according to Tustin police Sgt. Duane Havourd.

The victim was identified as 51-year-old Joachim Herbert Pauly. So far, police have not ruled it a homicide.

"It appeared that he had head trauma, investigators at the scene weren't able to determine whether it was accidental or if it was at the hands of another so we termed it a suspicious death," said Havourd.

According to police, the man had a long history of domestic abuse. Pauly's fiancée had complained to police about his abusive behavior towards her five times since 2008.

On August 26, Pauly was arrested for domestic abuse of his fiancée and issued a restraining order.

Just last week, he was arrested again on suspicion of domestic abuse of his fiancée.

Police said there was no evidence of forced entry into the residence.

Pauly's fiancée was questioned by police and released. At this time, she is not being called a suspect.

Detectives were waiting for a coroner's ruling on the cause of the man's death. The investigation was ongoing.
