Escondido bomb house location declared safe

ESCONDIDO, Calif.

San Diego County declared the area free of danger on Saturday after a sheriff's bomb and arson unit sifted through the debris on Friday.

Authorities said the rental home contained the largest amount of homemade explosives ever discovered in a single U.S. location.

Officials burned the home down after deciding it was the safest option.

An unemployed software consultant has been charged in the case.

County officials said crews will begin hauling soil, ash and scrap from the house to a landfill on Monday.
