2 Oxnard suspects caught after police chase

VENTURA, Calif. The incident all started when a Ventura police officer attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation on Friday just before midnight.

The driver, 43-year-old Darrin Sasaki, sped away, trying to flee the officer.

Other officers responded to aid in the chase, as Sasaki weaved in and out through a residential area near Bristol Road and Johnson Drive.

He blew through red lights, made sharp and abrupt turns, and even went against the flow of traffic. At times, Sasaki reached speeds of 80 miles per hour.

When Sasaki attempted to cross over a raised cement median while he was going against the flow of traffic , his car sustained too much damage to continue. Sasaki and his passenger, 32-year-old Juan Delgado were both taken into custody.

Sasaki was booked at the Ventura County Jail for felony evading. Delgado was treated at the Ventura County Medical Center for minor injuries. He was also booked into Ventura County Jail for being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and a parole violation.
