NTSB: No corrosion in San Bruno gas pipeline

December 14, 2010 12:00:00 AM PST
The National Transportation Safety Board issued a preliminary report on the gas pipeline explosion in San Bruno. The Sept. 9 blast killed eight people and destroyed dozens of homes.

Investigators said the pipeline showed no signs of corrosion, and was not dented or leaking.

The report also confirmed that the 30-inch pipe had many welding seams, contrary to previous claims by Pacific Gas & Electric that the pipe was seamless.

The NTSB is also investigating why it took nearly 90 minutes for PG&E crews to deploy manual valves to stop the flow of gas.
