Mercedes slams into construction area on 10

ALHAMBRA, Calif. The California Highway Patrol said a Mercedes-Benz veered into a coned-off area and hit some construction equipment on the westbound 10 Freeway near Fremont Avenue just before 1 a.m.

A female passenger in her early 20s was killed. The driver and four other passengers were injured but are expected to survive. A Caltrans worker was also hurt but not seriously.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 47-year-old man, is facing DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
