OTRC: Michael C. Hall's divorce: Julia Stiles denies causing it

Julia Stiles denies reports that suggested she allegedly helped break up the marriage of her "Dexter" costars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter.

Carpenter, 31, filed for divorce from Hall, 39, last week after almost two years of marriage, citing "irreconcilable differences" and seeking spousal support from Hall, People magazine said. They have no children.

The 39-year-old actor plays the title character of a serial killer who only targets people responsible for murder and moonlights as a blood spatter analyst at the Miami Police Department. Carpenter plays his on-screen potty-mouthed sister and a detective.

Stiles, 29, starred on the recent fifth season, which ended on Sunday, as Dexter's love interest - a rape survivor who enlisted his help in killing her attackers.

"I have absolutely nothing to do with the split between Michael and Jennifer," Stiles said in a statement carried by People. "We are good friends and enjoyed working together. This is a personal matter between them, and we should respect their privacy."

Prior to "Dexter", Stiles starred in movies such as "10 Things I Hate About You" alongside the late Heath Ledger in 1999 and "The Bourne Ultimatum" with Matt Damon in 2007.

Hall was previously married to actress Amy Spangler from 2002 to 2006. She has starred in Broadway musicals such as "Rock of Ages" and the musical television movie "Reefer Madness" with Kristen Bell.

Hall battled Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer of the blood, over the past year. Carpenter said in April that Hall had recovered. The actor was nominated for an Emmy and won a Golden Globe for his role earlier this year.

"Dexter", one of Showtime's most popular shows, was earlier this month renewed for a sixth season and was recently nominated for three Golden Globes, including individual nods for Hall and Stiles. Filming will begin in Los Angeles in the spring of 2011, the cable network said.
