Power expected to be restored in Claremont

CLAREMONT, Calif. The tree also toppled seven utility poles along Baseline Road when it came down after midnight on Tuesday.

Edison will have generators to help while they work to replace power poles in that area. Officials said power was expected to be back up for all customers by 8 a.m.

Residents coped the best they can.

"I went down to the garage. I grabbed all our camping stuff, brought it upstairs so we've got the propane stove and the propane lanterns," said Dave Overoye of Live Oak Canyon.

The initial outage affected more than 420 homes. The areas hardest hit included Santa Monica, Compton, Long Beach and Whittier.

The Department of Water and Power had no major outages to report.
