The cables said that Smith applied for legal residency in the Bahamas in 2006. It was granted about a month later, even though the process can take years.
That apparently led to the ouster of the immigration minister.
The alleged mishandling of Smith's son's treatment and death also felled several lesser officials.
Smith died in February 2007 and is buried in the /*Bahamas*/ next to her son.
