Alhambra brawl escalates, ends in shooting

ALHAMBRA, Calif. Authorities said a brawl broke out on the third story of a parking structure between 1st Street and Garfield Avenue as people who were at the clubs in the area were leaving at about 2 a.m. The parking structure is located across the street from the Alhambra Police Department.

Police officers responded to the fight and were able to separate people, but then they saw a car coming down from the top story of the structure, ramming cars all the way down.

Officers ordered the driver to stop, but he kept going. One officer bashed in a window in attempt to get to the driver, but the car kept moving. According to police, officers opened fire when the car started revving up and aimed for an officer.

"All of a sudden, we heard shots," said witness Joanne Arlington. She said she heard about three shots.

The suspect hit a wall in the parking structure in his attempt to flee.

"Then everything just went berserk, there were cops pulling up everywhere," Arlington said.

No one was injured in the shooting except the driver who was injured when he crashed. A passenger in his vehicle was not injured.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor at this time.
