Electronic pickpockets target credit cards

LOS ANGELES An electronic pickpocket can simply pass by someone, with a scanner in tow, and obtain all their credit or debit card information.

The scanners can be used to pick up on radio frequency identification (RFID) chips which emit a radio signal similar to a bar code.

U.S. passports issued since 2006 are also at risk because they contain RFID technology.

Experts say aluminum foil can block such scanners.

Carrying two RFID cards also helps because their signals will cancel each other out.
