The pup's family left him at a shelter in South Los Angeles on Christmas Eve. A group called the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County got the call to help.
Theodore had a broken leg and numerous puncture wounds.
"I like to think of it as our own mini miracle because he was in a very, very scary shelter, injured, crying in pain," said Maria Dales of German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County.
Theodore had surgery and is doing much better, but he's racked up a $5,000 veterinary bill.
