A Southern California lawyer who gained notoriety for challenging President Obama's citizenship has been dealt a major blow by the U.S. Supreme Court.Monday, the court refused to hear an appeal filed by Orange County lawyer Orly Taitz.

Taitz was contesting a $20,000 fine for filing what a federal judge called a frivolous lawsuit.

The suit was filed on behalf of an Army captain who sought to avoid deployment by claiming that Obama wasn't born in the U.S. and therefore couldn't act as commander-in-chief.
