Police in Torrance are warning residents about a convicted rapist who has moved into a neighborhood near a school.Residents in the neighborhood are on edge after police notified parents at Hickory Elementary School of the situation.

Rick Alan Gonzales, 57, served a 26-year sentence for raping a 13-year-old girl and a 65-year-old woman. He is not on parole.

Gonzales went to the police station to register as a sex offender as he's required to do by law. Police also met with Gonzales and his parents at their home in the 22600 block of Greenwood Avenue.

The home is about a block away from the school, located at 2800 W. 227th St.

Gonzales' father told the Daily Breeze that his son served his time and that he is living with his parents temporarily to get used to life on the outside.

Gonzales has a job and he plans to move out when he has adjusted to his freedom.

Gonzales was a sheriff's deputy in Riverside County when he raped a 13-year-old runaway in 1982.
