ABC7 celebrates MLK's legacy in LA

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference hosted its 34th annual Martin Luther King Jr. dinner celebration at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Los Angeles on Monday.ABC7'S Marc Brown and Michelle Tuzee served as masters of ceremonies. ABC7 was a proud sponsor of the event.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder was this year's King Award recipient.

Earlier in the day, ABC7 Vice President and News Director Cheryl Fair and Congresswoman Maxine Waters were among those attending a Kingdom Day Parade VIP breakfast in downtown Los Angeles on Monday.

The event saluted many of the dignitaries who took part in the Kingdom Day Parade, including the celebrity grand marshal, California Attorney General Kamala Harris and the international grand marshal, the mayor of Tabarre, Haiti.

Thousands lined the streets of the Crenshaw District for the parade featuring bands, drill teams, equestrian units and dozens of political leaders and celebrities.

It was the largest King Day event in Southern California, and organizers said the goal was to keep alive Dr. King's message of peace and hope.
