Osteoporosis screening for younger women

LOS ANGELES The newly released guidelines issued by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommend women who are post-menopausal and who have risk factors should be screened, even if they are younger than 65 years old.

Risk factors include weighing less than 125 pounds, smoking, drinking and parents with a history of bone fractures.

The newly expanded guidelines also recommend all women over 65 years old to be screened.
