Long Beach school district approves $33M cuts

LONG BEACH, Calif.

The board approved the cuts Tuesday night, and according to the Long Beach Press Telegram, that translates to proposed layoffs of more than 775 employees, including many teachers.

The district needs to reduce spending by about $155 million.

Officials said the cuts could be scaled back considerably if voters approve a state ballot measure in June to extend temporary tax hikes passed when former /*Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger*/ was in office.
