People across Southern California are handling the wild weather in different ways. One group threw on their bathing suits and took a polar plunge for a good cause.

"I'm so cold," said Nelson Guzman, a member of the Canyons Aquatic Club. "I need some shorts and a jacket."

It's was an especially bold move on such a cold day Saturday near Castaic. According to a lifeguard on hand, the water was 50 degrees.

The plunge is called 'Freezin for a Reason.'

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies joined other supporters for the Special Olympics fundraiser.
