OC police officers file discrimination suit

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, Calif.

The officers say they earned commendations, medals of merit and other honors, but were repeatedly passed over for special assignments in favor of less qualified white candidates.

"I'm just looking for fair treatment," said Officer Brian Perez. "I just want to be judged on the merits of my job performance. No more, no less."

"The promotion policies in the city of Westminster are unfair and discriminatory," said another officer suing, Ryan Reyes. "That is why I'm here today to say that enough is enough."

The city of Westminster issued a statement.

"We value each of our employees and have policies and procedures in place to prevent department members from being subjected to discrimination and to ensure full equal employment opportunity," the statement said.
