Simon Cowell has brought on Grammy-winning music mogul Antonio "L.A." Reid as a judge on his upcoming show singing competition series, "The X Factor."

Reid announced on Thursday that he would be stepping down as chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group. Barry Weiss of RCA/JIVE Label Group took over at Island Def Jam. Reid was responsible for signing Justin Bieber to a 360 deal in 2008 and brought Usher to success in 1992. He also launched the careers of Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, The Killers, Bon Jovi, Pink, Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna.

"I am proud to stand next to my dear friend Simon Cowell, one of the world's most gifted and charismatic talent magnets," Reid said in a statement issued by Fox. "'The X Factor" provides an extraordinary opportunity for aspiring artists of every age and genre to showcase their unique talents. I truly look forward to discovering our next generation of superstars."

Cowell was adamant about adding Reid to his judging panel and insists that the music exec was his first choice.

"L.A. was my number one choice to sit alongside me on the show," Cowell said in the statement. "In my opinion, he is one of the greatest ever music executives and of course a fantastic writer and producer. I am thrilled he has agreed to join the show, and for any artist auditioning, they know they have the chance to meet a true star-maker."

In his career, Reid has accumulated a diverse roster of talents, thirty-three No. 1 hits and three Grammy Awards.

As previously reported, it was Reid who came up with the idea for Bieber's documentary "Never Say Never" and demanded it go to theaters instead of direct-to-DVD because "Justin is too big for that."

In February, Fox announced that auditions for "The X Factor" would begin on March 27 in Los Angeles. The show is seeking undiscovered talent 12 years old or over, in solo artists or groups who will perform in front of the panel in hopes of winning a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music.

The show's host and additional judges have yet to be named.
