LA building inspectors caught in bribery string

LOS ANGELES

The inspectors are accused of taking payments to approve construction projects without actually inspecting them.

An informant told investigators that he bribed 49-year-old Hugo Gonzalez of Eagle Rock and 59-year-old Raoul Germain of Altadena with thousands of dollars in cash, vacations and home improvement projects.

Germain was free on $100,000 bail Saturday, while Gonzalez was denied bail, because prosecutors said he might flee to Mexico.

If convicted, the inspectors could spend 10 years in prison.
