Julia Louis-Dreyfus' return to television is underway.

The former "New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Seinfeld" actress stars in the new HBO comedy pilot "Veep" which was just picked up as a series by the network, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the show, Dreyfus plays former Senator Selina Meyer who becomes vice president of the United States but finds the job is entirely different than what she believed it to be.

The series also stars Anna Chlumsky of "My Girl" and "Lights Out," as well as "Arrested Development" star Tony Hale.

Louis-Dreyfus, an Emmy winner who received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in May (see video), played comedian Jerry Seinfeld's quirky friend Elaine on the hit sitcom "Seinfeld", which ran from 1990 to 1998.

She recently portrayed divorced mom Christine Campbell on the CBS comedy series "The New Adventures of Old Christine", which began airing in 2006 and ended in May after five seasons.
