Kid Rock surprises Detroit-area high school

April 22, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
Students at a Detroit-area high school are still buzzing on Friday morning after a surprise visit from a Grammy-winning rocker - Kid Rock.

The singer made a special visit to the school to drop off a donation to help his alma mater's music program.

In addition to the money, Kid Rock also offered a few words of wisdom to students wanting to follow in his footsteps.

"Surround yourself with good people. If you surround yourself with good people, you'll go far," he said. "If you start hanging out with knuckleheads, you'll be right in the knucklehead section the rest of your life."

After the assembly, Kid Rock spent an hour with the kids in the music program talking about life as a professional musician.
