Sales rep robbed of $1.5 million in jewels

SANTA MONICA, Calif.

The robbery victim is a sales representative for a jewelry company. He was not seriously injured.

Both of the front windows of the rep's car were smashed and one of its rear tires was slashed.

The robbery happened just off of Wilshire Blvd. between 20th and 21st streets. The victim stopped at the The Veggie Grill restaurant for lunch after making stops at other jewelry stores. Shortly after 2 p.m. he made his way back to his car in the rear parking lot when he was robbed by three men of an estimated $1.5 million in jewelry.

"Upon finishing lunch he exited the rear parking lot, and as he went to enter his vehicle three suspects approached the vehicle, broke out both windows on the vehicle and pointed a handgun at him and stole his jewelry case," said Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis.

"The suspects are described as three males, one of them possibly being light-skinned or white, mid-20s, all wearing bandanas, hooded sweatshirts and sunglasses," said Lewis. "At least one handgun was displayed."

"They fled in a newer Nissan Altima or Sentra that was either dark gray or metallic in color, and they went northbound on 21st Street from Wilshire, and out of sight," said Lewis.
