Judge delays trial of Michael Jackson doctor

LOS ANGELES

Dr. Conrad Murray's attorneys asked for a delay in the start of the trial, saying they need more time to review reports from two new witnesses.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor says "the need for fundamental fairness" requires a delay. He didn't say how long.

Jury selection will begin on Sept. 8 with new prospective jurors to fill out lengthy questionnaires. Current jurors will be excused. Opening statements are expected to begin later in September.

Murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Jackson.
