Horse jumps into crowd at Australia racetrack

Australian animal rights activists are calling for a ban on steeplechase racing after a terrifying accident that was caught on tape.

Amateur video was provided by the Coalition for Racehorse Protection. Seven spectators were hospitalized after a horse jumped over a high fence and into the crowd.

The most serious injury was to a 2-year-old girl who suffered a fractured collarbone. The horse's jockey was thrown off earlier in the race.

Race organizers said it was a freak accident. But activists insist the sport is cruel to animals and unsafe for spectators.
