Coffee may reduce risk of breast cancer

LOS ANGELES

Researchers analyzed more than 2,800 patients with breast cancer and more than 3,100 others who did not have it. Drinking coffee reduced overall breast cancer modestly, by 20 percent, when age was considered.

When other factors were considered, like fitness level and lifestyle, there was a 57-percent reduction in risk for estrogen receptor-negative cancers, which are less likely to respond to hormone therapy.

The study was published in the journal Breast Cancer Research.
