Man faked shooting at Yorba Linda trail

YORBA LINDA, Calif.

The man initially told officials that he was walking along a hiking trail near La Palma Avenue and Camino de Bryant at about 7 p.m. Wednesday when he heard shots ring out and felt pain in his leg and arm.

The man, who is described to be in his 50s, drove himself to a fire station with two bullet wounds. He was transported to an area hospital.

After investigators thoroughly searched the area into the night, the man admitted to police that he had made up the story after accidentally shooting himself at his home.

The identity of the man was not immediately released and there was no word on whether he would face any charges.
