Skechers' new product kicks up controversy

May 12, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
The shoe company Skechers has come under fire from some parents, who say its latest product is unhealthy for girls.

More than a thousand people have signed an online petition asking the company to drop its Shape Up shoes for young girls.

Shape Ups are designed to work out your legs while you walk and the sneakers are being marketed to girls between the ages of 7 and 12.

Many parents have signed the petition, saying it's inappropriate to get youngsters so focused on the shape of their bodies.

Skechers has not commented on the petition.
