Iowa woman gets $835 ticket for parking on grass

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa

The parking ticket came out to a grand total of $835.

Laura Sherman admitted that she drove over a curb to park on the grass at a recreational complex where her son was playing in a baseball tournament. But she said other parents had parked on the grass too.

"I looked, I didn't see any signs that said, 'No parking on the grass.' It's, you know, disappointing," said Sherman.

The city argues there are plenty of signs that prohibit parking on the grass.

"That shade tree out in the middle of that field that's not being used, it's not yours. It's not there for your use. We have a parking lot that's empty. Use it," said Asst. City Attorney Don Bauermeister.

Sherman said she will be fighting the ticket in court later this month.
