Oxnard fire cleanup raises health concerns

OXNARD, Calif.

The blaze broke out on Sunday at about 1:15 p.m. when a tractor trailer caught fire on the 3400 block of Sturgis Road.

Firefighters initially let the fire burn because of safety concerns about pesticides and other agricultural chemicals. Strawberry fields surrounding the fire acted as a natural fire break.

Environmental experts were on the scene on Monday and will handle the cleanup, which could take several days. Officials said nearby residents were not in danger and evacuations were not issued. No injuries were reported.

Officials said they believe the fire started on or near an 18-wheel tractor trailer parked at an agricultural storage facility.
