Caretaker arrested for elderly woman's assault

SANTA ANA, Calif.

Authorities say Domingo Rabino has cared for seniors for years. The 49-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting one of them, a woman in her mid-80s. He was hired by her family to provide in-home care.

The alleged abuse happened at least twice within the first couple of days while the suspect was giving a therapeutic massage in the victim's home.

"The next day he came back, rubbed lotion on the victim again, began a massage. This time he attempted to rape her, committed several sex acts," said Orange County Sheriff's Dept. Spokesman Jim Amormino.

Rabino, a Mission Viejo resident, was arrested after the woman reported the alleged assault.

Investigators say Rabino was caring for the woman's husband before he passed away in February.

Authorities say Rabino has worked for a number of homecare facilities, including Amada Home Care in south Orange County.

"Domingo Rabino was not associated with Amada in this case, he was working privately. Amada did background checks before he was hired a year ago and there were no problems. Following protocol, Rabino never worked alone with Amada's female clients. He is now terminated due to the allegations," said Chad Fotheringham, owner of Amada Home Care.

"This guy is a sick individual," said Amormino. "As you can imagine, this family trusted him to provide home healthcare for their mother and basically committed very terrible sex crimes."

"Get his picture out so they know who this person is," said Laguna Niguel resident Maribeth Lefler. "Because I know there's a lot of caregiving going on in this Laguna Woods area."

Authorities say Rabino was living in the homes of some of his female clients in Orange County and fear there are potentially other victims.
