OTRC: Lady Gaga talks bullying and 'SNL,' releases new album

Lady Gaga appears on 'The View' on May 23, 2011, the day her 'Born This Way' album was released.

Lady Gaga recalled her days of being bullied in school during an interview on ABC daytime talk show "The View" on Monday, May 23.

"They said I had a big nose," the 25-year-old pop singer said. "I had buck teeth. I got thrown in the trash can on the corner."

"I used to want to wear a mask every day," she added. "I got really bullied. I had a nice group of friends but getting picked on in school - it sticks with you in life. I don't think I realize how deeply it affected me until I started to become more successful."

She made her comments during an interview aimed at promoting her album, "Born This Way."

Lady Gaga, who was born Stefani Germanotta, was last week named No. 1 on the annual Forbes Celebrity 100 list, beating out Oprah Winfrey and Justin Bieber for the honor of the most powerful celebrity. She has talked about her painful experiences at her private, all-girls Catholic New York school before.

On the cover of "Born This Way," the singer's second studio album, Lady Gaga's upper body appears fused onto a motorcycle.

"I'm not just a vehicle for myself anymore," she said on "The View. "I'm the vehicle for the voice of my fans."

Aside from her music, including hit singles such as "Bad Romance" and "Born This Way," her new album's title track, Lady Gaga is famous for her wacky outfits and costumes, which have helped make her stand out and cement her status as a pop culture icon, especially for today's teenagers. The singer said that when she was in school, she was unable to express herself fully because she had to wear a uniform.

On "The View," the singer donned a black and blonde wig with a beehive, adorned with a big cross on a gold chain.

"Today was lazy so I just grew my hair really long last night," Lady Gaga joked. My real hair is brown -dark brown. Right now it's blonde with Cruella [de Ville] strips. I could just whip my weave off in front of you if you'd like. "

The singer appeared on NBC's late night sketch comedy series "Saturday Night Live" on Saturday's episode, which was hosted by fellow pop star Justin Timberlake (see below).

"We're already talking about me hosting 'SNL' next year," Lady Gaga said.

Lady Gaga also talked about being named the godmother of the new baby son of singer Elton John and his partner David Furnish, Zachary. Lady Gaga said she is taking her new role seriously.

"It's about faith and it's about me making sure that he grows up with someone who can talk to him about society and he's going to grow up beautiful because he has two amazing fathers," Lady Gaga said.

John has said that meeting Lady Gaga in 2010 was one of the nicest things that happened to him that year. The two singers performed together at the Grammys last year and recorded a song called "Hello, Hello" for the animated film "Gnomeo & Juliet."

Lady Gaga also addressed her 2009 meeting with the UK's Queen Elizabeth II, grandmother of newly-married Prince William.

"She said to me, "You have a very big piano," Lady Gaga said.
