ESPN: Mike Brown to succeed Phil Jackson as Lakers head coach

LOS ANGELES

Mike Brown was fired as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers last season. Brown, 41, is the winningest coach in the Cavalier team's history.

ESPN reports that Brown and the Lakers have agreed in principle to a four-year, $18.25-million deal, citing NBA sources. Brown is expected to sign the contract later in the week, according to ESPN.

The contract is a three-year deal with a team option for a fourth year, ESPN reports. If the Lakers don't pick up the option, Brown is guaranteed to receive $2.5 million, according to ESPN.

The Lakers released a statement Wednesday: "We've met with Mike and are very impressed with him. We have an outline for an agreement in place and hope to sign a contract within the next few days."
