Orange County mom spreads awareness on National Missing Children's Day

GARDEN GROVE, Calif.

Erin Runnion's daughter, Samantha, was kidnapped and killed in 2002.

Runnion's Joyful Child Foundation is partnering with the Orange County Department of Education to teach children how to resist predators.

Runion said the training is necessary because child abduction can happen anywhere.

"According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, since this day last year, over 840 children went missing. We must do more to prevent these terrible crimes," said Runnion.

In a visual reminder of the problem, ribbons with the names of the 840 children who went missing last year were tied onto a Garden Grove fence.
