South Gate police shot and killed a 19-year-old man armed with a knife after he apparently charged at officers.

Authorities said the man called police telling them he had stabbed himself 20 times with a knife.

When officers arrived at his location, the suspect said he had a gun and then ran into a nearby home, closing the front door. Officers surrounded the house, and the suspect ran out of the back door wielding a knife. He then tried to break into another home.

Officers tried to use a stunbag shot gun and a Taser to subdue him, but the suspect was unfazed. He then charged at officers with knife in hand, and that's when officers shot and killed him.

The man died at the scene. No officers were hurt.
