Neighbors reported hearing a gunshot at about 10:25 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of North St. Louis Street near City Avenue.
Responding officers found the victim on the ground, shot once in the back of the head. Authorities said the victim, who was described to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead on the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately released.
Though the investigation was on going, officers on scene said the shooting does not appear to be gang related.
Authorities did not release a suspect description, but witnesses said they saw a white vehicle they didn't recognize speeding away from the area.
LAPD officers in the Hollenbeck Division said none of the recent homicides in the area appear to be related.
