The Metro board voted to reduce the price of day passes from $6 to $5, and the day passes will be available on Tap Cards sold on buses.
The new rate starts Aug. 1 and it's part of a one-year test to see if a price rollback and convenience changes will encourage more commuters to try the Metro system.
The day passes were introduced in 2004 to replace transfer tickets.
