Rihanna defends controversial 'Man Down' music video

LOS ANGELES

In "Man Down," Rihanna opens fire on a man after an apparent assault.

The lyrics say, "I shot a man dead. I never been so proud."

The watchdog group Parents Television Council has condemned the violent video, arguing it implies murder is an acceptable form of revenge.

Rihanna is a victim of domestic violence herself, but denies advocating violence.

She told BET, "I've been abused in the past and you don't see me running around killing people. We just wanted to hone in on a very serious matter that people are afraid to address, especially if you've been victimized."
