Judge allows San Diego 4th of July fireworks

SAN DIEGO

The law would make fireworks shows subject to environmental review under California's Environmental Quality Act. The law covered charity runs, block parties, birthday parties and weddings at city parks.

However, event organizers said that's an unnecessarily tough requirement.

Debate on this particular issue started over a Fourth of July show in La Jolla.

That city's attorney plans to approach state lawmakers to create exemptions.
