A youth counselor will have to stand trial for allegedly kidnapping a Pasadena teenager and trying to extort money from her family.

A judge held a preliminary hearing Tuesday and decided there was enough evidence to try 40-year-old Kelvin McFarland.

He's accused of posing as a truancy officer, handcuffing a 14-year-old girl who skipped school, then demanding her father pay $100 for her release.

McFarland also is accused of insisting the girl be enrolled in his boot camp for at-risk youth.
