Study: Olive oil may help prevent strokes

LOS ANGELES

Researchers examined the medical records and olive oil consumption of over 7,600 study participants. Those who cooked with olive oil, used it as a spread and as a dressing, had a 41 percent lower risk for a /*stroke*/ than those who didn't use olive oil.

A spokesman for the American Heart Association suggests pairing olive oil use with other healthy lifestyle behaviors to cut your risk of stroke by as much as 80 percent.

Olive oil is a key ingredient in the so-called Mediterranean diet. Clinical trials suggest the diet helps control the risk factors for heart disease.
