Garth Brooks among Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees

NEW YORK

Billy Joel inducted Brooks into the class of 2011 at an annual gala on Thursday. The two then performed Brooks' 1991 hit song, "Shameless."

Leon Russell and Allen Toussaint were also honored at the event.

Other inductees included Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly, who wrote catchy hits including Madonna's "Like a Virgin," Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors," Whitney Houston's "So Emotional" and The Pretenders "I'll Stand By You."

Songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil were awarded with the Johnny Mercer Award. The married duo wrote the mega-hit, "You Lost That Lovin' Feelin'."
