Woman's body found in Torrance hotel room

TORRANCE, Calif.

Torrance police responded to a call about 3 p.m. of a suspicious death. A woman's body had been discovered inside a room at the Extended Stay American Efficiency Studios.

Police said the victim is about 45 years old and that her body may have been there for a few days. A member of the cleaning staff found her dead on a bed in her third-floor room.

"There is blood in the room and there were circumstances that led the employees here to see that the death was suspicious," said Sgt. Jeremiah Hart of the Torrance Police Department.

The victim's name was withheld until her family was notified.

Police said the victim is from the area but had been staying at the hotel for the past few months.

"We believe she might have been with somebody, that's what detectives are trying to ascertain," Hart said.

It was unknown if the room was registered under her name, but authorities do know the victim died at the hands of another. There is a person of interest who they are actively pursuing.

"There's obviously a suspect there who is involved in this homicide, we don't know who they are," Hart said. "There are a few leads and we're trying to contact people who may have some information."
