Ex-councilman pleads guilty in San Jacinto corruption

SAN JACINTO, Calif.

James Ayres on Thursday pleaded guilty to felony bribery, conspiracy and conflict of interest charges.

His wife Nancy Jo Ayres pleaded guilty on Friday to a felony count of filing a false document. She's a former member of the San Jacinto School District Board.

Authorities contend the Ayres, along with other city council members and local developers, conspired to circumvent campaign finance laws, particularly during Ayres' failed 2006 run for state Assembly.

Sentencing for the Ayres is set for August 12, but James Ayres is not expected to face any jail time.
